The innovative Houston restaurant serves its last meal. try the impossible It announced that it closed after service on Sunday, June 19 and will enter Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

“Our financial situation, along with poor traffic and therefore disappointing sales numbers over the past six months or more, has made it impossible to continue operations,” the restaurant said in a statement. She later added, “We are grateful to all who supported the Shoot The Moon journey. It pains us to make this decision, but we have no other choice.”

Opening in July 2021, Shoot the Moon is co-founder of Anvil and former partner of Underbelly Hospitality, with Chef Dax McAnear whose resume includes restaurants like Triniti, Hay Merchant, and Beaver’s. First announced in 2019, Shoot the Moon paired an accessible menu of pizza, shareable items, and appetizers with one of Houston’s first self-pour tap systems. The restaurant wall featured 80 selections of wines, beers, spirits, and cocktails that could serve customers at their convenience.

At the time, Floyd saw the concept as attractive to people like him. For once Anvil regulars who still appreciate handcrafted beer and cocktails but wanted to try it out in a more family friendly atmosphere with friendly food. Unfortunately, as the restaurant notes, it never attracted enough customers to be able to stay.

“Despite the high level of guest satisfaction and high online ratings, we were paralyzed by the lack of foot traffic at this location,” the restaurant said. “We haven’t come close to enough sales to sustain the business.”

Notably, two other self-service concepts operate in areas with a younger population. Moonshine Deck is part of the burgeoning 20th Street nightlife district in Shady Acres, and Roots is a self-catering bar near EaDo.

Shoot the Moon has occupied a location in the Spring Branch Village Shopping Center. Co-tenant Feges BBQ celebrated its first anniversary last weekend. In the coming months, the development will add new restaurants such as the Hando sushi roll concept, popular ramen chain Jinya and Vietnamese gastropub The Blind Goat.
