Although the selection includes cuisine from across the European and Asian continents, no restaurant specializing in Middle Eastern cuisine has been awarded a star. But Middle Eastern cooking has been appreciated among the recipients of the Bib Gourmand Awards – the restaurant category that offers a three-course gourmet experience at an average price of AED 250 (about $68). Beneficiaries include Levantine Bait Maryam and Al Khayma – serving rustic Emirati cuisine.
The Dubai guide may pave the way for Michelin’s recognition of culinary excellence elsewhere in the Middle East, and with Dubai hosting around 16 million tourists each year, the guide could help boost tourism even further.
