On viral TikTok, a barista at a small coffee shop says that one of Starbucks’ “crazy regular employees” came to demand that it make it an item from Starbucks’ menu. The creator says he’s been getting these regulars since Starbucks closed down the road.
In the video posted by TikToker Dean Redmond (@deanredmond) on June 3, he said that a customer came and tried to order a “Nitro Caramel Iced Cold Drink with Coconut Milk.” Redmond says he made it clear they don’t have a cold nitro drink or coconut milk at the coffee shop he works at, but he offered her to make something similar to oat milk instead.
“Bring her an iced caramel coffee because we don’t have a cold nitro, and she’s like, ‘EW. This coffee tastes watered down,” Redmond says in the clip.
He explains that she asked him to remake the drink into espresso and that he didn’t charge her for the first drink she didn’t like. When she tried the second drink, Redmond said she said it tasted “more diluted.”
Redmond continues that she then ordered a “hot caramel macchiato with whipped cream,” but was still not satisfied with the drink, saying “they do it better at Starbucks.”
“So I give her her bill because the Hot Caramel Macchiato has oat milk, and at my store we charge an extra dollar for non-dairy milk. I give her the bill and she says, ‘She didn’t charge me just for oat milk.’” “They don’t do that at Starbucks,” Redmond says. “I give it to her again and I’m like, ‘I’m sorry, I have to hold you accountable for this. “
He says the customer then asked for a “name you call” to complain that he was charging her for the oat milk.
Redmond explains, “So I gave her a name to call, gave her a number, and called the woman and she says, ‘Excuse me, your employee charges me for non-dairy milk.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s literally what we’ve been taught to do.'”
Redmond says that when the customer hung up the phone, she claimed the woman on the phone said he didn’t need to charge it. TikToker allegedly told her he overheard the woman on the phone telling the customer she had to pay for oat milk.
She said: Whatever. I’m only going to Starbucks from now on,” Redmond says.
The caption reads, “She ended up writing a review that basically said don’t go here and go to Starbucks.”

The video had more than 403,000 views as of Tuesday, with several commentators putting the customer on a blast and noting that Starbucks charges for non-dairy milk.
“Starbucks charges for extra non-dairy milk, extra flavor shots, lemonade, sweet cream, extra espresso shots, and refills. It just doesn’t pay attention,” one user wrote.
“Yes, Starbucks charges an extra 70 cents for oat milk. I don’t know what this lady is talking about,” another said.
“I made her three drinks and charged her one. A third added.
Several users claiming to be Starbucks workers have also commented that this behavior is typical of some regular employees.
Starbucks worker here! Yes, that sounds just like our regulars, so sorry,” one wrote.
“I swear I have to deal with clients like this daily. You yelled at me for charging a lady an extra 5 cents,” said another.
“As someone who has worked in both local coffee shops and Starbucks. Starbucks customers are much worse,” added a third.
