Bridgeport – Bridgeport’s main restaurant near the White Sox’s home will be closed next week, ending its long history of serving dinner classics and the iconic South Side beef sandwich.
The owners of Bridgeport Restaurant, 3500 S. Halsted St. It will close on June 30th. They are trying to sell the business.
Looking forward to retirement, the couple put the restaurant up for sale in 2019. Iris Rodriguez said the couple have owned and run the restaurant for about 15 years, always operating seven days a week. Now, they’re ready to shut down and spend more time with family.
“In this field, we have had clients for many years. It’s kind of sad, they don’t want me to leave,” he said. “But they understand that we have been working here for many years.”
Also known as Bridgeport Family Restaurant, formerly Irais Rodriguez said the restaurant has been in the neighborhood for at least 75 years. I’ve always been known for their steak, egg, melt, and 35th Street special: beef steak and sauerkraut covered in Swiss cheese.
“We have a lot of memories with the people in the neighbourhood,” said Iris Rodriguez. “We have been on some TV shows, ‘Chicago PD’ and ‘Chicago Fire’, and these memories will always be with my family and kids. I will miss everyone here, but it has to end somehow.”
The last day of service will be June 30. Iris Rodriguez said that he and his family highly value all of their clients over the years.
“I would like to thank all of my clients; I appreciate all the support.” “What can I say? I am sad that I am leaving, but I am happy to take some time off.”
