For many of us, meal set services are a new necessity – everything you need to make a dish delivered right to your door. The popularity of these services has grown, eliminating the need to write a list and head to the grocery store every week. But customers of the one-meal group service may be getting a lot more than they expected, in the form of liver and gallbladder damage. A food recall is a weekly event, generally issued by the manufacturer and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Sometimes, further investigation is needed, particularly when consumers report illness. As it turns out, these individuals are often the first to notice that something is wrong.
In April, consumers referred to Lucky Charms pills, claiming they fell ill after taking them, according to New York Post. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an investigation, testing pill samples and visiting manufacturing facilities, but so far, these customers haven’t had any answers. The problem arose again in June when customers claimed that Cheerios, also produced by General Mills, was causing them digestive upsets.

If you order meal kits from Daily Harvest, you’ll want to be aware of a serious new warning. On June 19, the company released a statement regarding France’s Lentil + Leek Crumbles, stating that it had received reports from customers about digestive issues after consumption.
In a statement emailed to best life On June 22, Daily Harvest confirmed that it had been in contact with those who had adverse reactions and that the company had “many times contacted directly with consumers who received the product” in order to spread the word. “The last thing we want is for anyone else to be affected,” the company stated.
On June 17, Daily Harvest issued voluntary redemptions in a direct email to customers, NBC News reported, offering a $10 coupon for each bag purchased. But according to customers, the coupon wasn’t a top priority, as the vegan product was causing far more serious problems than just an upset stomach.
Users have taken to social media to share health issues after eating the lentil and shallot product, with liver levels reported to be elevated.

The day after taking it, she experienced severe stomach and digestive pain that led to her hospitalization, and her problems remained unresolved after doctors’ visits. Silverman received an email from Daily Harvest, and upon doing a Google search, she realized that others had similar symptoms, namely elevated liver levels.
“I’ve had to completely adjust my life in the last month to deal with this, and part of me is grateful to have an explanation of what’s going on because I’ve never had a health issue like this before until I literally ate this,” Silverman said in her video, noting that eating a deli product Harvest was the only change she made to her routine.
Another TikToker, luke tachiposted about his experience and stomach pain after taking the product, telling NBC News in an email that he experienced “severe liver pain” that led to his hospitalization.
“The surgeons who consulted me were so baffled that they seriously considered removing my gallbladder,” Tashi told the outlet. Tashi also said he’s concerned about possible “long-term liver damage” and doesn’t think Daily Harvest has done enough to address the problem.

Comments and concerns flooded the Daily Harvest Reddit page, citing liver damage, gallbladder problems and food poisoning. Customers have also commented directly on Daily Harvest’s Instagram posts, and according to NBC News, the company began processing those comments on June 15.
In an updated Instagram post on June 19, the company cited a French “Important Message for Lentil + Leek Crumbles,” asking customers to click a link in the account bio to read more information. Customers weren’t happy with this post – especially the blurred caption.
“Launch your communications team,” one user commented. “This is not how you tell your customers that one of your products is sending people to the hospital.”
The company now appears to be fending off criticism about its handling of the issue, asserting that it is actively looking into the reasons why its product is making people sick.
“We have launched an investigation to determine the root cause of the health problems being reported,” the Daily Harvest said in the emailed statement. “We are working closely with the Food and Drug Administration and with multiple independent laboratories to investigate this matter.”
The company has also hired microbiologists, toxicologists, pathogens, and allergists. “All results for pathogens and toxins have so far been negative, but we continue to conduct extensive testing and will keep you updated,” the statement read. “We are doing everything we can, as quickly as we can, to identify the root cause. Nothing matters more than the health and safety of our customers, and we deeply appreciate the trust you place in us and our food every day.”
