When the kitchen is closed, the staff spend several hours cleaning before going out possibly to get rid of the steam. And in a few hours, it was time to repeat the process.

“The exciting thing is that we were able to move very quickly — there were no really long settings — and we were able to shoot these very long shots almost like a stage,” he says. “I got a taste of what it felt like to be in that box and sometimes spent 12 or 14 hours there without having done much other than a cigarette break.”

He also got a taste of how humiliating a job can be – not because of the customers, but because of the other chefs and staff. In the flashback in Episode 2, Carmi is still at his fancy job at a restaurant who is being bullied by his selfish boss. In the penultimate episode, there is a series of f-bombs that might set a new TV record as Karmi scolds his staff and they all yell at each other over blazing stoves and flashing knives.

Canadian chef Matty Matheson is a co-producer on the show and also appears in a smaller role, while creator Christopher Storer’s sister, Courtney Storer, is also a chef. White says they will watch The bearHe shoots from the sidelines and yells things like “fuck more” and “you guys don’t mean each other enough”.

“I like to think I’m a little bit closer now that I’m 31,” White says. “But I was aware of this feeling of being immersed in the identity of your profession only… When I was younger I could have been hard on myself, and I would see my career as a sprint. And the roles I wanted, I wanted so badly, and if I didn’t get On it, it was really the end of the world. Now that I’m a little bit older, I look at my career a little more through the lens of longevity and look forward to things like a bit more of a marathon.”

While The bear Not officially renewed for a second season, White says Storer has ideas and that “when I finished reading all eight episodes, I felt like this was really an introduction to the show. We’re giving fans everything they need to now have a show about fine dining and at home.”
