The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) has announced the keynote speaker at the World Fresh Produce and Flower Show in October. World-renowned chef, restaurateur and humanitarian expert Jose Andres will take the podium at this year’s event.
“Our industry got together in October years ago to get a sense of what’s happening now and what’s happening next,” said Bruce Taylor, Taylor Farms CEO and IFPA Board Chair. “This year as we celebrate the first world fair for produce and flowers, we want to create an experience that challenges our thinking and expectations.”
Andres is best known in the culinary field as a James Beard Award winner and two Michelin star, but he has taken the international stage for his humanitarian work. Andrés created World Central Kitchen in 2010, not only to empower communities through culinary training programs but also to feed and provide relief in the wake of emergencies and disasters around the world.
“Our industry feeds people all over the world,” said Walmart’s incoming Chairman and Chief Marketing Officer, Laura Himes. “I am delighted that José Andrés will take the stage in October to speak not only about the responsibility we bear as those who have come forward to feed the world, but also about the power we have to create a healthier world.”
Andrés was on the ground in Ukraine where World Central Kitchen organized local partners and volunteers to serve more than six million meals across the surrounding area. National Geographic He recently released the documentary We Feed The People, directed by Ron Howard that focuses on the evolution of the World Central Kitchen’s food relief business and examines its current global impact.
“When we created IFPA, we set as our vision the intent to create a vibrant future for all,” said Cathy Burns, CEO of IFPA. “Who is better than Chef Andres for joining our global community of produce and flowers and inspiring us with his insights and perspectives on how our industry’s products can transform many of the world’s biggest health challenges from food insecurity to diet-related chronic disease.”
“Changing the World through the Power of Food – A Conversation with Jose Andres” is one of the sessions that will be held at the exhibition in Orlando on October 27-29. The State of the Industry Keynote will also be presented by IFPA CEO, Cathy Burns, an industry-leading panel and more. These sessions come in addition to the exhibition that will take place on October 28 and 29, with the inclusion of a new two-hour block on the 27th day of the Business Solutions sector.
