Diljit Dosanjh’s take on the classic Shakshuka is hilarious but delicious

Tomatoes were an integral part of most cuisines. But have you ever thought about giving it center stage? In many parts of North Africa and the Middle East, Shakshouka is a popular breakfast meal. The dish consists of soft boiled eggs with tomato sauce and sweet pepper. Now, actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has given his turn to the classic Shakshuka recipe. The so-called foodie themselves often shares his culinary paths with fans via Instagram. We always look forward to them. Diljit shared the recipe for what he likes to call “Shak Chuka” on Instagram Stories. And don’t miss his funny comment behind the video. The clip opens with the singer spraying, apparently, ghee, on a frying pan set on the stove. Next, toss in some chopped red tomatoes. To add more flavor and red color, add some paprika masala. Now he covers the pan with a lid. And voila.

While Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Shak Chuka’ got us hooked on juicy tomatoes, let’s not miss this Shakshuka recipe, which has the quality of eggs.


  • olive oil 30 ml
  • Onion chopped 80 grams
  • Garlic (chopped) 10 grams
  • Ripe tomatoes (cubes) 60 g
  • Tomato paste 8g
  • Smoked paprika powder 8g
  • cumin powder 5g
  • Cayenne Pepper Powder 10gm
  • salt to taste
  • dried herbs
  • eggs 6
  • Parsley (chopped) 10 g


Step 1: Put a large frying pan over a medium heat, and pour in a little olive oil. Once the oil is heated properly, add the onions and cook until golden. Then, add hot pepper.

Step 2: Add some minced garlic and dried herbs. Cook for another two minutes.

Step 3: Pour the tomatoes and mash them using a spoon.

Step 4: Stir the sauce and bring it to a boil. Now, reduce the heat and let it simmer.

Step Five: Add all the remaining spices and seasonings. Leave to cook on low heat for 15 minutes.

Step 6: Make 4-8 pats in the sauce and crack the eggs. Soften them gently.

Step 7: Reduce the heat as much as possible, cover and cook for about 10 minutes, until the eggs are cooked through.

Step 8: Open the lid, garnish with parsley and serve.

The recipe is not improving. You can also add some paprika to add some classic aromas and flavors to the dish.
