Enjoy snacks and desserts for a “Stranger Things” themed watch party.

Demogorgons and teens from Hawkins and the Upside Down are back on screens for viewers around the world as the fourth season of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things has been released.

With the last two episodes approaching the screens, fans of “Stranger Things” are bringing together watch parties inspired by the themes.

Set in the 80s, the series is about not only the music and popular style of the time, but also food – particularly Eggo waffles main character Eleven.

Let’s set the scene: Quiet Hawkins, Indiana, like most quaint towns; Everyone knows everyone and people are always talking. What makes this city different is that it is home to a top-secret federal laboratory.

Things get weird when 12-year-old Will Byers goes missing after Dungeons & Dragons game night with his friends, Will, Dustin and Lucas. Things get even weirder when a little girl shows up at the restaurant wearing a hospital gown with the number 11 tattooed on it. She soon runs into the boys who hide her in Mike’s basement, where Eleven reveals to them that she has powers.

The show follows children and townspeople as they encounter evil monsters, learn more about Eleven, try to find their friend and discover the Upside Down – an alternate dimension in a parallel universe.

The third season of the horror series broke records in 2019. Netflix tweeted that the show was watched by 40.7 million families globally in its first four days.

The first volume of the fourth season of Stranger Things was released on the streaming platform on May 27, with the last two episodes appearing on July 1.

So pop up your Dungeons & Dragons toy chest and check out these Stranger Things inspired stuff. Whether you’re having a viewing party or just sharing it with the family, these recipes are sure to get everyone in the spirit.

Inverted pineapple cake

Invented in the 1920s and popular in the 1950s and ’80s, the upside-down pineapple cake is a buttery and sweet dessert, topped with pineapple rings and maraschino cherries.

Ingredients:

to top

• 3 tablespoons melted butter

• ¼ cup brown sugar

• 8-10 pineapple rings

• Maraschino Cherry

for vanilla cake

• 1/2 cup soft butter

• 3/4 cup sugar

• 2 eggs

• 1 teaspoon vanilla

• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• a pinch of salt

• 1/2 cup milk

instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F, and pour melted butter to coat bottom and sides of a 9-inch round cake pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the melted butter, and place the pineapple slices to cover the bottom of the pan, making sure to line the sides as well. Put the maraschino cherries in the holes of the pineapple rings and in the empty spaces.

For the vanilla cake, beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until just combined. Crack the eggs into the bowl, then add the vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder and salt. Then slowly add portions of this dry mixture and milk into the wet mixture. When the mixture is well combined, pour the mixture over a cake pan lined with pineapple and bake for 35 minutes. After 35 minutes, cover the cake with aluminum foil and cook for another 15 minutes. Allow the cake to cool completely before turning it upside down and transferring it to a plate.

Slider Waffle Chicken Wego

In Stranger Things, Eleven eats Eggo pancakes for the first time in the morning after Mike and the party find them, and they become her favorite food. She was even seen stealing several boxes of Eggos from the store in Season 1, Episode 6.

Ingredients:

• 1 cup all-purpose flour

• 2 teaspoons salt

• 1 teaspoon black pepper

• 2 teaspoons garlic powder

• 2 eggs

• 1 cup of milk

• 2 cups panko crumbs

• Boneless and skinless chicken breasts

• Vegetable oil

• Mini Ego Waffle Frozen

• Maple syrup

In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, garlic powder, and pepper (add the cayenne pepper), and in a separate shallow bowl whisk the eggs and buttermilk. In a third bowl, add the breadcrumbs.

Cut the chicken into 2-inch pieces and coat them in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, and finally the breadcrumbs. Place the chicken in 1 inch of hot oil and fry for two to three minutes on each side. Place the fried chicken on a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb the excess oil.

Sandwich the chicken between two toasted mini waffles and finish with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Demogorgon Pizza

OK, maybe this recipe doesn’t fit well with the ’80s food theme, but come on, anything in the shape of a Demogorgon is perfect for a Stranger Things watch party. This simple dish is inspired by the evil beast that viewers have come to know in the series.

From the Upside Down game, Demogorgons can step between the parallel universe and the real world, making fun of the characters.

Ingredients:

• Pre-made pizza dough

• olive oil

• pizza sauce

• Mozzarella cheese

• Favorite Additions

Preheat the oven, following the instructions on the pizza dough package. Roll out pizza dough on a surface moistened with oil, and shape it so that it looks like a demogorgon’s head, which resembles a flower with five petals.

Fold the edges of the pizza to make a crust, then brush with olive oil. Add pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings and bake until pizza is crispy on the bottom – about 10-15 minutes.
